Using a scanningless two-photon activation scheme for Channelrhodopsin (ChR2) we have developed a technique for targeted, specific and high-throughput stimulation of neuronal response with applications in neuronal circuit mapping and studies of mechanism of  dendritic computation.

By combing the Photoactivated Localization Microscopy (PALM) with the technique of temporal focusing super-resolution images of biological samples such as mitochondrial matrix in cell at depths up to ~10 µm with less than 50nm lateral resolution could be generated.
